The headquarters of the Iraqi national guards in al-Mushahada area to the north of Baghdad was attacked by mortars shelling yesterday morning and this resulted -- according to Iraqi defense ministry sources -- in killing four persons and injuring more than other 80.

Meantime, two Iraqis were killed and other 10 injured in a joint military operation for the American forces and the Iraqi national guards in al-Dalo'eya city near Sameraa to the north of Baghdad yesterday morning.
These joint forces held a security belt around the city since Monday evening and backed by helicopters inspected the houses and detained 10 persons.
Iraqi police sources said that violent fighting took place on Monday morning in the southern quarters of the city, while the American and Iraqi forces were deployed in other quarters and asked the people through loudspeakers to hand over several wanted persons.
Witnesses said that these acts of detention came following violent confrontations between several gunmen and the American forces during which helicopters were summoned to bombard farms surrounding the city.
In another development, one American military spokesman announced the killing of one American contractor and injuring other seven persons including one American soldier in an attack by mortar shelling targeted a position for the American army in the downtown of Baghdad.
On the other hand, the oil pipeline in northern Iraq was exposed to an attack by unidentified persons that resulted in setting fire in one of its sectors yesterday morning. Iraqi officials said that the attack which took place near Beji did not result in halting oil pumping and that exports are still continuous.
