Cairo sends strongly - worded message to Tel Aviv
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 10/5/2004

In a strongly worded message, Egypt has called on Israel's government to halt its continued attacks against the Palestinian people and to move positively for creating the climate which could help the Egyptian and international efforts for restoring calm and saving shedding blood on the Israeli and Palestinian sides.

A well informed diplomatic source told Al-Ahram that Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit addressed this message to his Israeli counterpart Silvan Shalom in which he expressed Egypt's deep concern over the dangerous escalation against the Palestinians.

Abul-Gheit asserted that this escalation would hurt the whole region and hinder the Egyptian efforts which aim at restoring calm and stability.

The sources said Egypt's message warned against the risks of the situation due to the Israeli threats to expand its operations under the pretext of firing Al-Qassam rockets on the Israeli cities.

The source said Egypt also asserted that this would not help solve the problem but rather would increase tension and its implications to the security and stability of the region.

Al-Akhbar learnt that the message asserted that if Egypt was committed to go ahead with its endeavors for halting the current cycle of violence, this necessitates that Israel should take steps for demonstrating its good intent and should help the Palestinian people to lead an honorable life, and to stop attacks against the Palestinian people as these practices hinder the Egyptian efforts for maintaining security and stability.
