Timetable for extending Arab gas pipelines inside Jordan and Syria discussed
Egypt-Regional, Economics, 9/25/2004

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmy will hold three meetings on Saturday with visiting Arab oil ministers.

The first meeting will gather Fahmy with his Syrian counterpart Ibrahim Haddad. The second will be with Jordanian Energy Minister Azmi Khraissat and the third with Lebanese Energy Minister Ayoub Hamad.

The meetings will review a number of economic, and technical reports, prepared by Enppi company, on the timetable for extending Arab gas pipelines inside Jordan and Syria.

Iraqi Oil Minister Yasser Al-Ghadabaan will join the meetings. The Egyptian consortium grouping: the Egypt Holding Gas Co. GASCo, Petrojet and Enppi are carrying out the second stage of the project through AL Fajr Company, a local firm that groups Jordanian, Egyptian and other Arab investors.

The three-phased gas pipeline project starts from Egyptian borderline city of Al-Arish to the Jordan port city of Aqaba (264 kms).

The second stage starts from Aqaba to Rehab in Jordan ( 370 Kms). And the third stage is scheduled to extend from Rehab on the Jordanian-Syrian borders to the Syrian-Turkish borders and Lebanon.

The pipeline will be extended to the Syrian port of Banias on the Mediterranean in 2005 and the Lebanese refinery of Zahrani in 2006, and afterwards to Cyprus, Turkey and other European countries.
