Terrorists planned to blow up the Italian embassy in Beirut

The ministry of the interior in Lebanon announced yesterday that a " terrorist group " led by one member of fleeing group in al-Denieh, who is hiding in Ein al-Helweh, was preparing for blowing up foreign embassies and interests including the Italian embassy in Beirut.

In a statement the ministry said that "at the supervision and following up of the minister of the interior Elias al-Murr, and coordination between the Syrian security and the general directorate of the internal security, informational branch, and the general directorate for the general security and the Italian security department, a terrorist group was arrested while planning to target and blow up certain foreign embassies and interests in Lebanon by booby trapped cars and implanting explosives in certain judicial and security centers.

In the preliminary investigations with the head of the terrorist group who was arrested, and who takes Ein al-Helweh camp as a headquarters, he admitted of planning and preparing to send a booby trapped car with 300 Kg of TNT to attack the Italian embassy in Beirut. Most members of the group were arrested. The head of the terrorist group also admitted of planning and preparing to target the consulate of Ukraine in al-Hazemeyah by explosives.

Investigations revealed that members of this group are linked and get finances from extremist cells in Europe.
