Inter- Sudanese negotiations were resumed in Abuja over Darfur
Sudan, Politics, 9/7/2004

It was due that negotiations between the Sudanese government and the " Sudan liberation" and " Justice and equality " movements in Western Sudan would resume to solve the Darfur crisis.

The meeting which was due on Sunday was postponed at the request of the rebels after the rejection of one project proposed by the African Union to eliminate the obstacle of the security file in the current negotiations in Abuja, and warned of the need to dismantle their weapons before a final and comprehensive peace takes place as the negotiations are in a critical phase that might accelerate its collapse at any time.

The proposal calls for accelerating the process of dismantling Jangaweid militias, enhancing the role of the African mission in the district, using of force to restore back peace and security in the region and trying persons responsible for violating human rights and releasing detainees.
