One Palestinian is killed, three wounded in Balatah camp
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 5/25/2004
As soon as the occupation forces were re-deployed yesterday at dawn in Gaza in Tel Sultan quarters in Rafah, thousands of besieged Palestinians took the streets to inspect the great devastation inflected in their homes and properties and to take part in burying 16 of them as it was difficult to bury them because of the siege and the continued Israeli aggressions.
More than 10,000 Palestinians gathered immediately after lifting the siege from Tel al-Sultan and joined the funeral of the 16 Palestinians whose bodies were put in flowers and vegetables refrigerator. However, the Israeli army did not withdraw from all parts of the city. One Israeli tank opened fire at the eulogizers when the approached the playground and this resulted in wounding two Palestinians. One lost one eye and the second is in a grave situation.
Meantime, UNRWA announced it had handed over 86 houses for the Palestinian refugees in Rafah and Khan Younis in Gaza whose houses were demolished by the Israeli army. In a statement, UNRWA said that the new houses will accommodate 93 families including 475 inhabitants and were completed at a cost of USD 4.6 million. The statement said that 1309 houses used to be inhabited by 18300 Palestinians were damaged or destroyed in Gaza since the beginning of the Palestinian Intifada until May 10, before the recent operation in Rafah.
The statement indicated that the dislocated families which are waiting for houses received urgent aids including tents, covers and foodstuffs.
