Islam and the Kurds is the identity of the new Iraqi flag
Iraq, Politics, 4/27/2004
The Interim governing council in Iraq yesterday ( Monday) decided a new flag for the country instead of the previous one. The new flag is composed of a light blue crescent on a white back and a strip of yellow color with two blue lines at the base.
The crescent signifies the official religion of the country while the blue strip Iraq's Kurdistan area and the two lines indicate the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.
The new flag- which will be hoisted on the government's buildings and establishments within days- provokes doubts within the Iraqis especially the two lines which remind of the Israeli flags ( which has also two blue lines), according to political analysist Walid al-Zubeidi. Al-Zubeidi stressed that the new flag is loosing legitimacy because it was not decided by a constitutional decision or by an elected legitimate government.
