At the American guard, al-Tamimi a chairman for Baghdad's municipality

Under tightened American guarding, Baghdad's municipal council yesterday chose Ala' al-Tamimi as a new chairman for the municipality after he had asked to return back home from the United Arab Emirates.
In what was described by the Americans as victory to democracy, al-Alaa al-Tamimi, a very popular engineer who spent years in Abu Dhabi as an advisor for its planning administration won the majority of votes. However, the final say in choosing him is in the hand of the American administrator Paul Bremer.
