Three Palestinians killed, Israel commends the American veto
Palestine-Israel, Military, 3/27/2004
One Palestinian from the "al-Aqsa martyrs group" was killed near an Israeli military inspection point in Nablus to the north of the West Bank.
News reports in Palestine said that Ahmad Abed, the member in the military wing of the Fatah movement was killed when his explosive belt went off while he was driving his car in al-Quds street near Balata camp to the east of Jerusalem.
This came after the killing of two Palestinians during fire exchange with the Israeli occupation forces as they were sneaking on Thursday evening from the sea to a nearby position, near the complex of Ghoushe Katief settlement to the south of Gaza.
The military wing of the Islamic resistance movement ( Hamas ) claimed responsibility for the operation and said in a statement that the two suiciders Zakariya Muhammad Abu Zour ( 18 year old) and Izhaq Fayez Nassar ( 18 year old), both of them are from al-Zeitoun quarters ( to the east of Gaza) carried out a qualitative sea operation that targeted a "procession of the Israeli usurpers cars." On another development, Israel yesterday expressed its satisfaction over the US use of the veto at the UN Security Council against the draft project ( veto ) deploring the assassination of the founder of the Islamic Hamas movement Sheikh Ahmad Yassin in an Israeli raid on Monday.
Israel's former ambassador to the UN and the consultant for the Israeli government Douri Gold said that Israel "views with great appreciation the firmness shown in this voting by the US administration under the leadership of George Bush which fought once again for the terrorism fighting principles.." The Palestinian authority deplored the decision, the minister for negotiations affairs Saeb Oreikat said that the use of the Veto " will be taken by Israel as an encouragement to continue the march of violence, escalation and assassination and re-occupation of the Palestinian lands.."
The US justified its rejection of the American project proposed by the Arab group as does not include a condemnation of the Hamas movement during its execution of operations against the Israelis.
Some 11 countries had approved the project while Britain, Germany and Romania approved the voting. The UN security council 15 members failed last Wednesday to reach an agreement over a joint statement relating to the assassination of Sheikh Yassin.
