Morocco-Spain, Politics, 3/16/2004
Spain's incoming Socialist leader Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero on Monday pledged to maintain "magnificent relations" with its southern neighbor Morocco, and to open "a new era of good relations" with the kingdom.
The PSOE Secretary general and newly elected Prime Minister of Spain made this pledge at a news conference in Madrid.
"we are going to open a new era of good relations with Morocco. It is my objective and also a priority of Spain's foreign policy.," he added.
He noted that the two neighboring countries are "bound by intense historical relations and cultural and economic interests."
"We must have good relations," said the new Spanish leader whose party won Sunday's general elections.
