Mubarak: our relations with Libya are strong
Egypt-Libya, Politics, 1/21/2004
President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt has stressed that Egyptian- Libyan relations are "strong even if there are different view points," in remarks to Cairo's rejection on Libya's "unilateral" negotiations, rather than having a Arab collective framework on the issue of mass destruction weapons.
This came in parallel to a decision taken by the Egyptian government stated to exempt the Libyans from getting entry visas to enter Egypt, according to Egyptian sources at the Egyptian- Libyan border area in al-Salloum area yesterday. Libyan who wants to come to Egypt still have to have 500 dollars on the ground of reciprocated treatment.
Last week, the Libyan authorities announced removing of restrictions on the entry of Egyptians to its lands, and currently calls on each Egyptian who wants to enter Libya to have an entry visa or a work contract or to have a resident license in Libya.
On January 9th Libya imposed entry visas on Egyptians and Cairo decided reciprocated treatment and also imposed entry visas on the Libyan. However, transport movement between the two countries was restored to normalcy this week. The Libyan restrictions coincided with the Egyptian entry to Libya with a complaint filed by the Libyan embassy in Cairo against 15 Egyptian journalists because they had criticized the Libyan leader.
