Morocco highlights need to foster Arab League's role
Regional-Morocco, Politics, 1/13/2004
Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohammed Benaissa, highlighted over the weekend the need to promote the Arab League's role and the implements of Arab joint action.
The foreign minister urged for drawing inspiration from the experiences of other regional and international organizations to make the pan-Arab organization an efficient tool to serve Arab action, he told MAP.
Several proposals were made in order to achieve this aim, including the restructuring of Arab specialized institutions, he pointed out, explaining that these proposals are aimed at establishing bases of a joint Arab foreign policy, backing inter-Arab cooperation by setting up an Arab free trade zone and improving the Arab economies.
He added that these initiatives are currently under scrutiny in the League to "come out with a fresh approach to back Arab joint action and materialize the aspirations of the Arab nation."
