Qurei' threatens to declare a state of two nationalities
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/9/2004
The Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei' threatened that the Palestinians will seek to establish a state of two nationalities, and would trequest the same rights if Israel executes its threats to confiscating lands in the West Bank.
Qurei' indicated that the Apartheid wall, built by the occupation forces onllarge parts of the West Bank, is a solution based on r"acial discrimination because it places the Palestinians into cantons."
He stressed the Palestinians' worries because of the unilateral plan of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon to disengage with the Palestinians, and to impose de facto borders that will deprive the Palestinians from a land they hope to establish their state on.
The Palestinian prime minister added that Sharon's unilateral plans might push the Palestinians to give up their efforts, aiming at ending the conflict in the region. He stressed that in front of such a current condition, the Palestinians will fight for establishing a state for themselves, and that his government will not hesitate to defend the right of the Palestinian people against the Israeli schemes.
Meantime, one Palestinian from al-Aqsa group was killed yesterday in Jenin, at the hands of a special Israeli force, while another Palestinian was killed by the Israeli occupation bullets yesterday at dawn, to the south of Gaza, where the Israelis destroyed two houses for Palestinians near the border strip with Egypt in Rafah.
In another development, some 60 Palestinian prisoners in an Israeli camp in the West Bank yesterday started a food strike in protest of their detention conditions.
Muhannad al-Khazzar, a lawyer and member in the Palestinian prisoner rights, said that those Palestinians detained at Salem military base, to the north of the West Bank, complain of being in overcrowded conditions and insufficient food given to them by the Israeli soldiers.
The lawyer said that the base's prison can only accommodate 25 detainees, while the army put in it 60 Palestinians, following the recent operation in Nablus, which resulted in several acts of detentions.
