Jordanian King concludes a historical visit to Tehran Khameini, the Americans have to leave Iraq

The Jordanian king Abdullah II yesterday ended a historical visit to Iran that lasted for two days and was the first by a Jordanian king to Tehran since the launching of the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, by meeting with the higher guide of the Islamic revolution of Iran Ayatullah Ali Khamaeni, who called for the evacuation of the American forces from Iraq.
The Iranian news agency quoted Khameini as saying that the "situation in Iraq is very disappointing and Iraq will not enjoy a prosperous future as far as the American and British forces presence is perpetuated." He added "the occupation forces should leave Iraq quickly and put the authority in the hands of people."
For his part, the Jordanian king considered that the Palestinian and Iraqi questions as the main impeding problems the Islamic world is facing. He considers that coordination and consultations between the two countries might play a role to preserving the reciprocated interests and further consolidation of security and stability in the region.
The Jordanian king who arrived on Tuesday in Iran had met with President Muhammad Khatami and the foreign minister Kamal Kharazi as well as other Iranian ministers.
The Iranian official news agency said that King Abdullah issued a joint statement with Khatami following their meeting yesterday in which both Tehran and Amman "welcomed the formation of the Iraqi governing council and considered its formation as a step towards restoring the sovereignty of this country to the Iraqi people."
In their statement, the two sides stressed "the importance of establishing peace and security in the region and called for dismantling mass destruction weapons in the Middle East region because of the resulting dangers." The two countries stressed the need that the Palestinians to get their legitimate rights and to form an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as a capital.
