Arab League: accusations against Zayed Center are groundless
Regional-United Arab Emirates, Politics, 8/19/2003
The spokesman for the secretary general of the Arab League, Hesham Youssef said yesterday that the American accusations of Zayed's international center for coordination as anti-Semitic "is absolutely baseless," noting that the Arab League has not received an official notification yet on UAE decision to give up this center.
On Sunday, a UAE official announced that the UAE decided to stop financing of the center and to close its headquarters which was established in Dubai since the foundation of the center in 1999, at a decision from the AL to revitalize joint Arab action.
Youssef said yesterday "we were not notified officially by the government of the UAE of any change in the status of the center."
He added " it would be sad and of a great loss if activities of the center are stopped or minimized in any way." He stressed that the center "plays the role of a forum to hear all voices."
