Sudan, Ethiopia end border dispute
Sudan-Ethiopia, Politics, 7/3/2003

The agreement which was signed between Sudan and Ethiopia has ended the border crisis between the two countries and the conflict on the ownership of lands in al-Fashqa area, to the east of "Sundus" and Atrabawi river was contained.

This was maintained by agreement to return back these lands immediately to the Sudanese side, with the exception of small pockets which were not settled yet.

The Wali ( governor ) of al-Qadaref area which adjoins the Ethiopian borders, Abdul Rahman al-Khuder, told the Sudanese daily Alwan in its yesterday's issue that after long negotiations between the Sudanese and Ethiopian sides, direct directions were issued by the Ethiopian prime minister Melis Zenawi to end the conflict which lasted for 7 years and the return of the lands to its Sudanese owners.

Al-Khuder explained that the agreement on the return back of these lands came after the meetings of the joint ministerial committee which held its meetings in Addis Ababa last week and followed on Sunday by meetings in the Sudanese al-Qalibat city, attended by the two countries ministers of the Interior, the Sudanese minister of investment and the ruler of Ethiopia's al-Amhar province which adjoins al-Qadaref province.
