17 Palestinians killed in Israeli massacre, demolishing, damaging 93 houses

The Israeli occupation forces yesterday committed brutal acts which claimed the lives of 17 Palestinians including three brothers from Abu Hein family and two children, while more than 40 others were wounded when scores of Israeli tanks incurred yesterday at dawn at al-Shuje'eya quarters in Gaza under the cover of the Israeli military helicopters opening fire intensively at the homes of Palestinians.

Two other Palestinians were killed by the Israeli forces in another incursion operation in Yata town, Hebron, in the West Bank and four were wounded, thereby making the number of Palestinians killed yesterday at 17.

Confrontations took place between the invading forces and the Palestinian Intifada youths resulted in wounding 8 Israeli soldiers, four in critical health condition, according to a spokesman for the Israeli army.

The Israeli air raid against the city of Rafah in Gaza which concentrated on Salah Eddine streets which separates the two parts of the city resulted in destroying 8 homes and damaging other 15 homes in the Palestinian part of the city while heavy damages were inflicted on 20 homes on the Egyptian side of it.

The Israeli forces also arrested 16 Palestinians during the inspections and breaking in operation carried out by these forces yesterday in various parts of the West Bank and Gaza.

However, the Palestinian authority government which held its first meeting yesterday denounced this act. Palestinian security sources said that some 20 Israeli tanks backed by armored vehicles and helicopters incurred in al-Shuja'eya quarters in the downtown of Gaza amid Israeli shelling.

The Palestinians intercepted the Israeli forces and opened fire at them, several vehicles were damaged as a result.

These Israeli forces besieged the house of Youssef Abu Hein and the neighboring house and asked some 50 persons to immediately get out of their houses before destroying them.

Witnesses said that four- storey building accommodating 60 persons was completely destroyed, while damages were inflicted in more than 50 neighboring houses and the infrastructure, electricity, waters and telecommunications and main streets because of the Israeli shelling.
