Al- Dostour: details on assassination of Iraqi leadership
Iraq-USA, Politics, 4/14/2003

Well-informed sources told the Jordanian daily al-Dostour yesterday that an operation of collective assassination was made by American- British forces for the Iraqi leadership and was carried out, according to a tightened intelligence plan in al-Mansour suburb in Baghdad.

The sources said that two of the dissent senior Iraqi military leaders coordinated with one of the leaders of the Republican Guard in an operation to monitor the date and place of a meeting for the Iraqi leadership, noting that the senior leader of the Republican Guard carried out this mission completely. The paper explained that he was informed by the two opposition leaders that the Iraqi leadership will be meeting in an old house in al-Mansour quarters and following that the American planes bombarded the place.

The sources added that the said plan also stated that the senior leader at the Republican Guard was due after the assassination of the Iraqi leadership to give his orders for the Republican Guards and the army to gather their arms in three positions in Baghdad and to return back to the houses until these forces are summoned one again. And this is what had happened.

The sources stressed that all members of the Iraqi leadership were assassinated except the minister of information Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf and the Vice President Izzat Ibrahim.

These sources indicated that the persistence of both Britain and the USA to hide the assassination incident is because of several reasons, mainly not to show Saddam Hussein as a hero, as well as other members of the Iraqi leadership, so as this leadership will be exposed to accusations inside Iraq and in the Arab states to that they had fled.

The sources said that the other objective is that the US administration will make of the issue of searching for the Iraqi leadership as a blackmail and pressure papers for states neighboring Iraq in preparations to attack them.
