King Fahd: we will not take part in war nor enter Iraq

Saudi Arabia's King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz yesterday delivered a speech read by Crown Prince Abdullah and defined four main pillars that can be considered as the broad lines for the Saudi foreign policy regarding Iraq.

Fahd said in his speech "Saudi Arabia at any rate will not take part in the war against sisterly Iraq, and our armed forces, under any condition will not enter one inch of the Iraqi territories." Secondly, Fahd said "we expect the war to end as soon as UN resolution 1441 on dismantling mass destruction weapons is implemented. We categorically reject effecting Iraq's unity and territorial integrity, wealth, internal security or (for Iraq) to be militarily occupied."

The King added that his countries had informed the US "our clear position." Thirdly, the Saudi King said "the extraordinary conditions which has been besieging the crisis since 12 years, make it imperative on us not to join an uncalculated adventure that makes the safety of our people and homeland vulnerable." Fourthly King Fahd indicated in his speech he expected "a serious move to reach a quick settlement for the Palestinian question on the ground of the Arab initiative and the land for peace formula," recalling that the Palestinian question is the core for every solution in the Middle East.

He expressed "great regret" that "our efforts and the efforts of our brothers and friends who desire peace did not reach the awaiting results." He attributed that to the weakness the Arab world is suffering."
