Jordanian FM calls for implementation of road map and avoiding war on Iraq
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 2/5/2003
Head of the Jordanian diplomacy, Marwan Muasher, called Monday for the implementation of the so-called Road Map providing for the establishment of a Palestinian state, and urged for carrying on efforts to avert war against Iraq.
Muasher, who held separate meetings with Palestinian local rule minister Saeb Oreikat, and Greek foreign minister, George Papandreou, said "it is high time mechanisms aiming at ending the Israeli occupation were enforced." He also stated that "efforts should continue to avert war on Iraq in spite of all expectations that war will undoubtedly break out."
On American and Israeli request, the USA, Russia, the UN and the EU delayed the publication of the Road Map that aims at creating an independent Palestinian state in three phases by 2005, after the Israeli legislative elections.
He said that it is not necessary to await the forming of a new Israeli government to implement the Road Map and that war on Iraq will greatly damage Jordanian interests in terms of oil and refugees flow.
