Naval Palestinian operation off Gaza, a second in Hebron
Palestine-Israel, Military, 1/18/2003
As the Israeli forces on Friday imposed a naval siege against Gaza, noting that a booby trapped boat was found in the area, the Ezz Eddine al-Qassam group -- the military wing of the Hamas movement -- announced that one of its members yesterday executed a "martyrdom" operation off Dogit settlement to the North of Gaza.
In a statement, al-Qassam group said that the executor of the operation is Mahmoud Yassin al- Jammasi ( 24 year old), while a Palestinian source stressed the Israeli forces imposed a comprehensive siege on the entry of the Palestinian fishermen to the sea.
Two other Palestinian resistance fighters were able to break into Kreyat Arbaa settlement near Hebron and opened fire at it, and this resulted in killing one settler and wounding other two, before one of the Palestinian attackers was killed during fire exchange with the Israeli soldiers while the second fled.
On Friday at dawn, the Israeli army detained nine Palestinians in Bethlehem, Toulkarem al-al-Am'ari camp for the Palestinian refugees in Ramullah.
A military spokesman said that other six were arrested for questioning in Doura town to the south of the West Bank.
The Israeli forces arrested in Toulkarem and al-Shweika village two Palestinians on charges of resisting occupation, claiming that they were intending to carry out operations against Israeli targets during the few coming days.
Meantime, Palestinian sources in Amman stressed that the Israeli authorities are working to obstruct the measures relating to passports of Palestinians who applied for performing al-Haj rituals for this year to Saudi Arabia.
The sources explained that the Palestinian authority asked several countries and international organizations to interfere and pressure Israel in order to solve this problem and to open the crossing before more that 11,000 Palestinians who intend to perform al-Haj rituals.
