UAE, Syria for ports cooperation

The Syrian transport minister, Makram Obeid, on Thursday in Abu Dhabi discussed with the director of Dubai's ports authority Jamal Majid Bin Thaneyah cooperation between ports in the two states.

Obeid called for finding out a mechanism for joint cooperation between the Syrian and UAE ports which have become of a remarkable position at the Arab and international levels, noting the need of making use of UAE potentials and expertise to this effect.

Bin Thaneyah gave a detailed explanation on his country's ports and their work mechanism, noting the increase in the volume of its operations from 1.1 million containers in 1991 to 4 million containers in 2002.
