Algerian government denies differences between Butaflika and the army; Algerian- US cooperation on terrorism

The US under secretary of state for political affairs Marc Grossman on Wednesday in Algiers stressed, following talks he had held with the Algerian foreign minister Abdul Aziz Balkhadem that Washington supports the political and economic reforms carried out by the government of President Abdul Aziz Butaflika.
Grossman stressed the firm security cooperation between his country and Algeria "in fighting terrorism."
In a press conference he held, Grossman unveiled security coordination and cooperation between the American and Algerian intelligence in "fighting international terrorism." Meantime, the Algerian minister of culture and communications, Khaleida Toumi, who is also the official spokeswoman of the Algerian government stressed that all Algerian state establishments "accepted the policy of civil reconciliation set by President Butaflika immediately after he had assumed power in the country in April 1999."
Toumi who was also an advisor for the president, called on those who talk of differences existing between the President and the army asking them to "look at the interventions submitted by the leaders of the Algerian army in the international forum to fighting terrorism which was held two weeks ago in Algiers."
