Mashakos negotiations deal with sharing authorities; Eritrea regional accusations
Sudan, Politics, 10/28/2002
The Mashakos negotiations in Kenya have entered the phase of sharing the authority, and the rebels of John Garang once again debated the issue on the situation of the capital Khartoum and the idea of excluding it from implementing the Islamic Sharia.
Meantime, Eritrea on Saturday accused Yemen, Sudan and Ethiopia of conspiring against it and imposing a regional isolation on it in order to topple the regime of President Asyas Afourki.
A source representing the rebels said that the government of Omar al-Bashir and the rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Army people's have started negotiations on the fundamental issue of sharing authority in the Kenyan city of Mashakos. He explained "we are studying what sort of presidency will be in the framework of new agreements," following a series of talks dedicated for this issue in earlier times.
Meanwhile, Eritrea has accused its three neighbors Yemen, Sudan and Ethiopia of forming an alliance to impose a regional isolation on it and working to topple the regime of Asyas Afourki. This was expressed in a statement by Asmara radio stating that the agenda of the Sanaa summit meeting, which had the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan and Ethiopia's prime minister M. Zenawi in Sanaa in the mid of October, concentrated on "attempts to impose a regional isolation on Eritrea and conspiring against it." According to a commentary by the radio, Ethiopia will organize meetings of the elements of Eritrean opposition to train and equip its members and provide them financial support," while Yemen is to give military and financial aids, and Sudan will organize training camps and open its borders for Eritrea's opposition in order to carry out acts of destruction in the border area with Eritrea.
