National council elections due in Bahrain expected to be weak
Bahrain, Politics, 10/8/2002
Bahraini opposition circles have expected that the national council (parliamentary) election due to be held this month to be weak and to have less expected enthusiasm despite the fact that these elections are the first since 28 years.
The Jam'eyet al-Wifaq al-Watani and Islameyah (Islamic national reconciliation society) which declared its boycott of the elections besides other three societies described the coming parliament as "weak" and lacks a great rate of people's representation, noting that the ability to change and making reforms does not come from inside the Parliament.
Bahrain will carry out the parliamentary elections on October 24.
