Guatemala denies recognition of so-called Sahrawi republic

Guatemala has denied having recognized or having had any relations with the so-called Sahrawi republic (SADR), self-proclaimed by the Polisario secessionist group which is claiming the independence of Morocco's southern provinces.
A statement of the Moroccan ministry of foreign affairs and cooperation says Guatemala has officially notified Morocco's embassy in Mexico that it has never recognized the Polisario and that it has never recognized the Sahrawi republic.
Guatemala is therefore denying press reports on some Internet sites that included it in a list of countries recognizing the self-proclaimed republic.
