Dominican Republic freezes recognition of so-called Sahrawi republic

The Dominican Republic announced this Thursday it is freezing its recognition of the so-called Sahrawi republic, a self-proclaimed entity claiming the independence of the Moroccan Sahara.
A Dominican official statement says "the Dominican Government supports efforts by the United Nations secretary general for a fair and lasting solution to the Sahara conflict and underscores the importance of promoting cooperation between the two parties (to the conflict) to reach rapid and substantial progress in the implementation of the (U.N.) settlement plan in all its aspects."
"In order to contribute to creating an environment conducive to a settlement of the conflict by the international community, the Dominican Republic has decided to freeze its recognition of the Sahrawi Democratic Arab Republic, pending a consensual agreement that will satisfy expectations of the parties involved," the statement says.
In addition to the Dominican Republic, several other countries withdrew their recognition of the puppet entity, including Benin, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Togo, Congo Sao Tome and Principe, Swaziland, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Malawi, Chad, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Peru, Columbia, Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Paraguay, India, Vanuatu, Salomon Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and Tuvalu.
