Bahrain's coming revolution in education; knowledge production sought
Bahrain, Education, 4/27/2002
Bahrain's Education Minister Mohammed Al Ghatam said there is a complete overhaul planned for Bahrain's education system to dramatically improve standards, saying "learning by rote will be out, in favour of teaching pupils to think for themselves," Gulf Daily News reported.
He said earlier this week that a plan would be submitted to the Cabinet to "revolutionising" education in Bahrain "from the start of the new academic year, in September.
The project will be evaluated by experts, and then discussed at a national conference, before being presented to the Cabinet, Ghatam told GDN "the aim is to nurture students with 'total personality competence."
"We want the student to move from being the consumer of ready-made knowledge to a producer of knowledge," Ghatam said.
