Egypt, Local, 3/2/2002
"The new Grand Egyptian Museum project, which will be built upon an area of 117 feddans near the Pyramids area, will be totally constructed with Egyptian raw materials reflecting Egypt's diverse natural wealth," said Ali Al-Saiedi, Minister of Industry and Technological Development.
In statements Saiedi said the use of Egyptian granite and marble will add a unique feature on this museum to make it a matchless cultural and architectural masterpiece.
"According to studies and plans prepared by the culture ministry on this museum, it will be composed of 20 buildings and will have contacts with all museums of the world, in addition to enlighten cultural and scientific centers," said the minister.
"Feasibility studies said that LE 150-180 million will be the annual returns of the visiting tickets, besides revenues of sales of publications and memorabilia as well as musical, theatrical and cinema shows," he noted.
Saiedi pointed out that the museum provides jobs for 2000 youths and will house nearly 150,000 pieces of antiquities mirroring the developing civilization of Egypt throughout its long 7000-year-old history.
