Senegal supports Morocco's territorial integrity
Morocco-Senegal, Politics, 3/1/2002
Senegal reiterated on Thursday support to Morocco in the Sahara issue and said it is defending the Sahara as Moroccan territory with deep conviction.
The Sahara is Moroccan and Senegal and its officials are defending this stance with deep conviction, said Senegalese foreign minister, Cheikh Tidjane Gadio, at the opening of the Moroccan-Senegalese joint commission, in the presence of Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa.
After he stressed the value that Senegal grants to Morocco in its diplomacy, the Senegalese official called for consolidating economic ties between the two African countries and hailed the excellent relationships existing between the two countries.
He recalled that President Abdoulaye Wade visited Morocco shortly after taking office in April 2000, and King Mohammed VI had also paid an official visit to Senegal.
The head of the Moroccan diplomacy had said upon arrival in Dakar the commission will examine several aspects of bilateral cooperation in an atmosphere of understanding and friendship.
He said he will also hold political consultations with his Senegalese peer and meet president Abdoulaye Wade.
The two countries will sign five agreements meant to enhance cooperation in communication, radio and TV, avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion, equipment and roads and highways construction.
