Princess Lalla Hasna of Morocco calls for Arab information charter to fight women's edging out

Morocco's Princess Lalla Hasna, youngest sister of King Mohammed VI, called for the adoption of an Arab information charter to struggle against women's edging out and fight all forms of discriminations they suffer from.

In an address Saturday before the 4th forum of the Arab women summit, held in Abu Dhabi Feb.2-4, to discuss the image of Arab women in the media, Princess Lalla Hasna said the strengthening of the Arab woman's place in the media and the use of most sophisticated information technologies can be of great help in reflecting the genuine image of the Arab-Islamic civilization, based on the principles of equality and respect of woman.

Underlining the decisive role of the media in upholding the Arab-Islamic nation's interests, Princess Lalla Hasna said the Arab media cannot fully play their part without an efficient participation of women. The media should highlight women's role in building up Arab societies, she insisted, recalling the efforts made by King Mohammed VI to integrate women in all media, as he deems this integration part of the democratization of the society and of media.

The forum to wind up this Monday is scheduled to draft an Arab media charter on women.
