Mubarak lays foundation stone of new Egyptian museum

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak today laid the foundation stone of the new Egyptian Museum in an international cultural ceremony , attended by a number of prominent figures.
Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni said Sunday the new museum will be built over an area of 117 feddans in Cairo-Fayyoum desert road at a cost of some $ 350 million.
"The museum will accommodate 150,000 pieces of antiquities from various eras to be gathered from the Egyptian Museum and warehouses of antiquities in Cairo and other governorates," he added.
Meanwhile, Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni visited yesterday the site of the new Egyptian Museum in the Fayyoum desert road to follow up the final arrangements for the celebration.
The minister was accompanied during the tour by Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Gaballah Ali Gaballah and a number of other cultural official
