Oman backs Mubarak's call for anti-terror conference

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Tuesday received a verbal message from Sultan Qaboos of Oman on coordinating stances vis-a-vis the recent regional and international developments.

President Mubarak received the message at a meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Youssef Bin Alawi who arrived in Cairo yesterday.

Bin Alawi said following the meeting that the Egyptian-Omani views regarding these developments are identical.

The Omani Minister said that his country has made its stance clear concerning expanding the military operations against terrorism to include Arab or Islamic countries.

Oman cannot accept any excuses for striking at any Arab or Islamic state, he explained.

Bin Alawi expressed hope that the international campaign against terrorism would lead to uprooting terrorism.

As for Oman's stance on the call by President Hosni Mubarak for holding an international conference on fighting terrorism, Bin Alawi said the conference should be held to seek means of combatting terrorism.

About the definition of terrorism, Bin Alawi said that this definition is controversial by nature.

He noted, however, that the Palestinians' struggle for restoring their occupied lands is legitimate and cannot be defined as terrorism.

Also, Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said that President Mubarak entrusted the Omani Minister with a verbal message to sultan Qaboos of Oman on the current situation on the regional and international developments.
