ISESCO holds conference on Islamic sharia and contemporary societal issues
Regional, Religion, 10/25/2001

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) is holding in Rabat, this October 29-31 in cooperation with the World of Islamic Thought, an international symposium "islamic Sharia and Contemporary Societal Issues."

A statement by ISESCO says the symposium seeks to highlight the Islamic stance vis-?-vis contemporary issues, show the applicability of Sharia (Islamic law) in all times, emphasize the pioneering civilizational role played by the Islamic religion, and promote the exchange of experience and know-how amongst Muslim scholars with respect to settling the Muslim world's problems and catering for its needs.

Participants in this symposium will debate four main points, including Sharia enforcement in contemporary societies, Islamic culture and identity issues, socio-economic issues from an Islamic perspective, and environment, health and population-related issues.
