State terrorism by Israel, more dangerous than that of individuals
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 10/13/2001
Egypt's Ambassador in Paris Ali Maher Friday slammed state terrorism perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people.
He pointed out that Israeli state terrorism against Palestinians is more dangerous than terrorism practiced by individuals or groups tending towards favoring extremist streams.
The ambassador stressed that Islam is the a religion of love and tolerance, it rejects violence and prohibits the killing of people, he said, distancing Islam from acts practiced by Saudi-born Osama Bin Laden.
On whether President Hosni Mubarak had received assurances from the Americans on not exterding the scope of war to include some Arab countries, Maher asserted that Egypt's understanding is that the American strikes would only target the terrorist havens in Afghanistan.
Asked about Egypt's stance in case the strikes were expanded to include Iraq or the Lebanese Hizbollah resistance, the ambassador said if this happens, the matter will be very serious.
It would be an unlimited catastrophe that no one could predict its consequences, he added.
The diplomat warned against continuing the US attacks against Afghanistan for a long time, especially with the advent of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan, stressing that this would further provoke the Egyptian and Arab public opinion.
Maher denied that Egypt had any information about Mohammed Ata, accused by the United States of flying the first kamikaze plane which rammed into the World Trade Center on September 11.
Egypt has no information about Ata since he left the country 12 years ago, he added. He categorically denied that Egypt has any evidence proving Ata's involvement in the September 11 terror attacks against the US.
