Saint Ananias Chapel

Near the Eastern gate of Damascus, at the end of the street called " the lone street" ( al-Share' al-Taweel), stands the Chapel of Ananias, named after the Damascene saint who was one of the seventy two apostles of Jesus Christ mentioned in the holy Books.

Ananias, the first Bishop in Damascus, believed in Christ, and made his house a safe place to spread Christianity.

With his own hands, and in his house, he baptized Saul ( the Jew who converted to Christianity and became Saint Paul, the Messenger ).

Saint Ananias Chapel, with its great religious importance is consisted of two small under-ground rooms, laid with stone, with two holes in its roofs to allow light into the place.
