Cohen exempts Israeli military extremists from serving in Gaza, the West Bank
Israel, Politics, 4/7/2001
The Israeli Minister Ra'nan Cohen has criticized the law on exempting students of religious institutes and the religious settlers from military service. A matter which led to the escape of reserve Israeli army soldiers and officers from military services especially in Gaza and the West Bank. Cohen said in statements quoted by the Israeli radio that this law had made a distinction between two groups towards the military service.
It exempts the settlers and students of religious students from service in a way that the reserve military services will be performed by 30% of the Israelis noting that such an exemption caused an increase in the number of those who escaped reserve military service.
