Israel reneges on peace treaties
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 4/5/2001
Egyptian People's Assembly Speaker Fathi Surour said Israel has reneged on peace treaties already signed with Palestinians.
Surour is chairing the Egyptian delegation to the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) meetings in Havana, Cuba.
Surour refuted the allegations of Israeli Minister of Justice who criticized Palestinians for using stones against Israeli forces that killed the innocent worshippers in AL Aqsa Mosque.
"Israel also killed the innocent young children, such as martyr Mohamed AL Dorra who was killed in the arms of his father," said Surour.
Palestinians are using their rights of self-defence against colonizers, according to international law, added Surour.
Israel is not serious about reaching a peaceful settlement, as they have wasted ten full years in procrastination, he went on.
"Violence could only be stopped through achieving peace," Egyptian official said.
Surour criticized the Israeli Minister's statements on the duality of Egyptian stances towards Iraq.
Egypt had stood against the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, a matter which doesn't contradict with its call as to lift international sanctions imposed on Iraq.
