World Church Council calls for putting an end to Israel's occupation to Palestinian territories, Golan, Shebaa farms

The Central Committee of World Church Council wrapped up its proceedings on 5th of February in Berlin. It issued a significant statement on international issues, inclduding both the intifada (uprising) against Israeli occupation and the blockade imposed on Iraq.

The statement supported the stance of Jerusalem-based churches bishops who had announced their abidance by their oppressed people'sright to resist till they attain independence.

The statement stressed as well the importance of both probing the core of Palestinian-Israeli dispute and helping Palestinians restore their freedom, rights and establishing their independent state.

The central committee sadness over the victims of intifada, particularly children and youth, stressing the bitterness suffered by the Palestinians for not enjoying the freedom to reach the places of worship easily.

The committee called for putting an end to Israeli occupation to the Palestinian territories, Golan Heights and shebaa farms and realising just peace.

The meeting of the central committee was inaugurated by a speech delivered by its Lebanese chairman Arami, Orthodox Patriarch. He tackled violence in all its differentforms and churchesrole in standing against it.

The committee wound up its meetings by launching a decade-long universal campaign for cooperating, as Christians, with other heavenly religions and national associations in containing violence.
