One Italian kidnapped in Yemen
Yemen, Local, 6/17/2000

Tribesmen in Yemen have kidnapped an Italian man just one week after a Norwegian diplomat was killed in a fire exchange between the policemen and the kidnappers of the diplomat.

A Yemeni security official told pressmen in Sanaa today that the tribesmen kidnapped the director of Italy ' s museum and his Yemeni friend on Friday in Maareb district, to the east of the capital Sanaa and took the two hostages to a nearby area. He gave no more details to this issue.

In recent years tribesmen kidnapped tens of foreigners in Yemen. The kidnappers use the hostages to demand the government to provide services or to pressure for releasing their colleagues in prisons.
