Moroccan premier conveys king's message to Mauritanian president
Mauritania-Morocco, Politics, 6/14/2000

Mauritanian President Mouaouiya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya received on Tuesday Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi who conveyed him a message from King Mohammed VI.

Youssoufi told the media he reviewed with the Mauritanian president the agenda of the 1st Moroccan- Mauritanian high joint commission. He added that the Mauritanian president was satisfied over the items on the agenda, mainly those related to trade development, improvement of communication means and cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, training and culture.

He added that the commission, which was set up during Taya's visit to Morocco last April, is a qualitative leap forward in bilateral relations.

Regarding the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), Youssoufi said both countries share the view that the grouping -which musters Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia- should be activated and given a new impetus.

To a question on a project to build a trans-Saharan road, the prime minister said Morocco hopes that the Mauritanian stretch linking Nouakchott to Nouadhibou will be completed and that the project be operational the soonest.

The two Maghreban officials also surveyed the situation in Africa and in the Middle East.
