Today, the verdict in Qatar coup trial
Qatar, Judicial, 2/29/2000
It is decided that a Qatari court in Doha will deliver a sentence today in the case of the failed coup attempt which took place in Qatar in June 1995.
Lawyer Nasser al-Kaabi told the AFP on Monday that the sentence will be released today "unless the court finds there is a need for a further study of the case."
Some 120 persons have been tried in this case including 37 in absentia, also including the main convict who is the Qatari emir's cousin, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Hamad al-Thani.
The accusations addressed are the attempt to topple Sheikh Hamad Bin Khaleifa al-Thani, carrying weapons against the state, attempting to quit the Emir by means of force and contacting foreign states to commit aggressive acts.
