Honduras withdraws SADR recognition
Morocco-Honduras, Politics, 1/21/2000
Honduras officially decided it no longer acknowledged the so-called SADR pending the outcome of the United Nations referendum in the Sahara, diplomatic sources in Tegucigalpa said.
The Honduran government is closely monitoring measures adopted by the Security Council on the future of the Sahara, the same sources said.
The Moroccan foreign affairs department hailed the move saying it is a victory for international legitimacy and further evidence as to the factitious nature of a doomed entity enjoying no legal grounds.
In the last two years three other Latin American countries, namely El Salvador, Guatemala and Peru, have rescinded their decision recognizing the separatists.
