Sheikh Khaleifa to crown UAE reforms with direct elections

Sheikh Khaleifa: UAE to have first ever parliamentary elections
President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khaleifa Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, said on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the foundation of the UAE that a partial parliamentary elections will be organized for the first time in the history of the country, but without specifying a date for that.

US condemns UAE arrest of homosexual couples
The United States yesterday condemned the recent arrest of a dozen same-sex couples in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and deplored the statement by the UAE Interior Ministry that the men would be subjected to forced hormone and psychological treatment.
