Committed to agreement, Bashir negotiates only on points approved in Mashakos
Amid continued military preparations to restore back the city of Tourit from the hands of the rebels, the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), the Sudanese government informed Kenya's President Daniel Arab Moi through members of the negotiation team in Nairobi its conditions to resume negotiations with the rebels whose attacks against Tourit, resulted in halting these negotiations.

Mashakos agreement falls, Sudan suspends negotiations, prepares for battle
Mashakos agreement stumbled on Monday after Khartoum announced the "suspension" of its participation in a sudden deterioration that brought back the shadow of war in southern Sudan as the rebels of John Garang controlled two days earlier the strategic "Tourit" city. A matter which was retaliated by Khartoum in declaring a state of alert in the lines of its forces to restore the city.

Sudanese direct Mashakos negotiations start today
Sudanese sources in Mashakos have expected that direct negotiations will start between the two delegations of the government and the rebels following 20 days of indirect negotiations between the two sides through international mediators from IGAD, the USA and Europe.
