Safety concer for humanitarian workers in Somalia after abduction
Aid workers in strife-torn Somalia should be able to operate in safety with full access to those in need, a senior United Nations official said yesterday, in the wake of the recent abduction and release of a UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) staff member in the south of the impoverished Horn of Africa country.

Smugglers forced 137 persons into deep waters off Yemeni coast
In the latest grim episode of asylum seekers and migrants dying while trying to cross the Gulf of Aden from Somalia to Yemen, the United Nations refugee agency reported today that smugglers forced 137 men, women and children into deep waters off the Yemeni coast, killing at least 33, with another 30 missing.
