News reports in Iraq said that all employees of the independent higher commission of the elections in Musil, numbering 700, gave their resignation. They justified that to the threats they had received during the few past days and the withdrawal of the Iraqi Islamic party from launching the elections which are decided on January 30, 2005.

Well-informed Syrian sources said that the Syrian government returned back a sum of $ 3.5 million to the Iraqi authorities after it was agreed to return back this sum in earlier meeting with Iraqi officials. The sources explained that this sum was not a matter of controversy between the two sides.

A trap for the Iraqi police
Commenting on Baghdad's explosions which took place on Tuesday evening which resulted in killing 30 persons and injuring other 25, a high ranking official in the Iraqi police said that this operation was "a trap" implanted for the Iraqi policemen with the aim of inflecting utmost losses in their line.

The statement which does not set a date for the detentions said that the guards forces broke into suspected groups in al-Mahmodeyah area ( 30 Km to the south of Baghdad) during which some other 25 persons were detained carrying the Syrian nationality, having with them amounts of weapons.

By the end of another bloody day in Iraq in which 33 Iraqis were killed, Abu Musab al-Zarqawei group claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt of the leader of the Higher Council For the Islamic Revolution in Iraq Abdul Aziz al-Hakim.

Continued killing, attacks in Iraq
Al-Zarqawi's statement on the Internet on Tuesday claimed responsibility for another attack targeted the commander of the national guards in Baghdad Col. Fahd al- Namrawi while another statement issued by the group claimed responsibility for an attack by a fuel tank near the Jordanian embassy in Baghdad. The result was nine persons killed and scores wounded.
