She added that five years ago, the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti- Personnel Mines and on their Destruction, was opened for signature in Ottawa. The Ottawa Convention was signed on that occasion by a record 122 states, and subsequently ratified and brought into force in a record 15 months.
