Diouf regrets discrination against Africa
Senegal, Economics, 12/31/1999
Senegalese President Abdou Diouf Thursday criticized the international community for imposing "discriminatory treatment" on Africa concerning the preservation of human rights.
"That which applies to Kosovo should also apply to Angola," he said when receiving the new year wishes of the diplomatic corps accredited in Dakar.
Diouf underlined the need for the international community to make the "universality" of the principles of the United Nations charter prevail.
He recalled the will expressed by the Organization of African Unity to consider the restoration of peace on the continent as "one of its priorities" for the coming years.
"The economic recovery of Africa requires an environment of peace and security," he added while hailing the creation by OAU of mechanisms to prevent conflicts.
He also rejoiced over the "extraordinary impulse of solidarity" prevailing within the West African Monetary Union and the Economic Community of West African States in their progress toward "harmonious integration."
