Visas for Egyptian workers in Palestinian area not renewed by Israel
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 12/31/1999
Cairo has asked its ambassador to Israel, Muhammad Basyouni, to make urgent contacts with the Israeli government in order to contain the problems resulting from the Israeli embassy to Egypt refraining from renewing visas for Egyptian engineers who work on Palestinian projects in the Palestinian self-rule areas.
The problem started when workers at the Arab Contractors Company which takes part in building Gaza's airport and port, started to renew the visas by which they had traveled. The Israeli embassy refused to give them new visas.
The Arab Contractors Company was obliged to delegate new engineers to the Palestinian government areas so as not to stop the current construction work.
